Lovely homemade strawberry icecream. 400ml of bought premium vanilla custard, a splash of cointreau and 7 or 8 perfectly ripe and luscious strawberries. Half of the strawbs were roughly mashed with a fork, the rest cut into halves or quarters. The fragrance of the strawberries ran all the way through the lovely creamy icecream. Just wonderful!

Does the Cointreau incorporate well into ice cream? I can't wait until strawberry season again to try this.
Oh sounds fantastic FC! Was that with the icecream ball? Do you know if we can get them in Aus?
Cranky - Cointreau is good everywhere! And it is so nice with strawberries.
HH - yup, that is why it was such a small quantity. I haven't seen them in Oz, but I bet you can get them on ebay.
Foodycat, you've made me both happy and sad. Let me explain. Your ice cream recipe sounds divine. I love strawberry ice cream, especially homemade. That's the happy part.
The sad part is that I tried growing strawberries for the first time this year. Oh joy! I also took picture. The flowering, the actually berry gowing. The blushing of the berry until it got completely crimson...then my plant died. I don't know why. I was devasted. I guess I'll try again..after the mourning. :)
Oh yummy, I just got two pints of strawberries from the farm, I really need to make ice cream
Teresa - we're growing these in the conservatory. We haven't had any success with them outdoors (if it wasn't the birds it was the snails).
Kat - 2 whole pints! Lucky!
Oh my goodness... that looks so good! Strawberry ice cream is my favorite!
I love fresh strawberry ice cream--I bet the Cointreau was great in it.
Stacey - mine too! Took me about 25 years to decide, but now I know strawberry is definitely my favourite.
Deb - it was! Just the right touch.
