Apple & Spice Vin Chaud

When it is cold outside and getting out from under the blanket seems like a real chore, you have to start looking for things to stoke the inner fires. Steaming mugs of mulled wine certainly do the job, and are one of the best things about the Christmas season in the Northern Hemisphere. This white wine and apple juice version is a really delicious alternative that tastes just as festive as the classic spiced red wine. I used about a quarter of the amount of sugar recommended, which was about right for my palate, and instead of a strip of orange peel I used a quartered calamondin. Warming, comforting, delicious and festive!

Oh delicious FC!! And how cute Urchin is!!! It is a terrible thing about being so hot here that one doesn't want to drink mulled wine so much. My next UK/Northen Hemisphere christmas I will be full of Mulled wine and its various incarnations from November through to January!!

That sounds delicious - haven't come across that before.

And your cat knows where's best, doesn't it?! ;)

Mmm, just what I need. I need to have a crock of it by the door to welcome me from every dog outing!

I love hot spiced wine but never thought of doing it with white.

Perfect timing.... here in the States, we are under a deep cold snap and this will definitely help warm the soul & toes. Many thanks...

HH - she is a bit adorable, isn't she?

Forkful - she sure does!

Natashya - you could get the dogs little barrels to carry around their necks?

Kat - It never occurred to me, either!

George - you will love it!

what a great picture!

I have had one bad experience with mulled wine... Thanks for the kick in the arse to give it another try. I like the idea, but so far I have had disappointing results

Grill - you should have another go!

Cranky - she is such a time waster! I intend to do something and then spend an hour just gazing at her.

Cat steals the show.

White gluhwein is a really interesting idea. Too hot here for anything above 12C

Urchin looks all warm and cozy! ;-) I love anything with apple juice or cider in it. This looks perfect!

Laura - it does smell gorgeous

Mother - I think you could do a very nice chilled version, too!

Deb - I can see this as a simple saturday sipper for you!

that is a very interesting idea - apple & spice vin froid. Daryl would love it even post India.

I love that you used white wine. While I liked mulled cider, I get tired of red all the time. Thanks for sharing a great twist!

Mother - I think I would do a spiced simple syrup, and then proceed with chilled wine and apple juice.

Aimee - you should definitely try this one as a change.
