A kind friend in Australia sent me a care package containing these - limited edition mint Tim Tams. Now, I have gone on record as being conflicted about mint chocolate. I adore the Mint Slice biscuit, the Peppermint Aero chocolate, the Peppermint Crisp chocolate, the After Dinner Mint. But the last few times I have had a minty chocolate dessert I have thought it was absolutely horrible.
The Mint Crisp Tim Tam is not horrible. No indeed. A single layer of normal Tim Tam chocolate biscuit (which - for those of you who haven't had the pleasure - is normally 2 biscuits sandwiched with creamy chocolate stuff and covered in chocolate) is topped with a white mound of creamy minty filling, flecked with crispy green bits. Then the whole lot is coated in dark chocolate. Yum. The dark chocolate is bitter enough to take the edge of the rest and the mint is fresh without being toothpasty. Get them while you can.

i've never had a tim tam, and really need to get my butt to the store so i can buy some - they're selling them in the US for a limited time. the mint ones sound delicious! i love mint and chocolate!
Is this just a penguin by another name? I do quite like mint chocolate so these sound good to me!
Heather - they aren't my favourite chocolate biscuit, but you really should try a tim tam at some stage!
Sam - I don't think I've tried a penguin, so I can't comment.
I can see how mint and chocolate can go terribly wrong ... especially if the mint is overdone. These Tim Tams look lovely!

Supposedly we have tim tams in the US now, but I haven't seen them yet. I want to try one!
Oh my, I will head straight to the shops! Yum!
I can confirm that the Tim Tam is based on the UK Penguin. They're smaller, fatter and much easier to dunk.
I haven't seen these ones but I'm going to hunt them down tomorrow!
Ali - badly wrong! The chocolate mint mousse parfait things I made a while back were dire.
Esi - the classic ones aren't anything very special.
HH - get them while you can!
SSS - thank you for the clarification.
I have never had a Tim Tam either, if I ever spy one I will definitely try one!
I made a trip to Coles today in the persuit of research.
They're nice. Very nice.
Pop into Waitrose and pick up a packet of Viscount biscuits. Almost indentical in taste but the Viscount doesn't have the crunchy bits.
Natashya - if you find them, I will instruct you on the tim tam slam.
SSS - I saw Viscounts yesterday, but they were orange flavoured.
