Meatball Minestrone

A bowl of soup and a glass of wine in front of a roaring (coal-effect) fire? Hell yes! This one was inspired by Heather's glorious Minestra al pomodoro e pesto. Unfortunately I didn't have any filled pasta in, but the idea of using little meatballs for the meaty component was sheer genius. Meatballs (good pork and garlic sausages squashed out of their skin), carrot, leek, onion, tomatoes, chickpeas, spirali pasta and shredded cabbage simmered to succulence and dolloped with a spoonful of (bottled) rocket pesto. Proper food.

Kat - perfect cold weather food indeed! Apparently we're getting Siberian winds this weekend, so I might need to make more.

Alex - cheers! *hick*

Sounds really good and hearty. It's so hot here I can't even think about warm soups yet, but when (if) it get's cold again, this is on the list.

Esi - wow, it's just got quite cold here again, so there will be more soups!

Heather - I like eating in the living room in front of the fire!

Natashya - those coal-effect gas fires are great. Fairly efficient and put out lovely heat.

Deb - I can't believe I hadn't had minestrone with meatballs before - it was lovely!

Foodycat! I'm sorry I haven't been around in a little while. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I gasped aloud at your comment of the trip to Paris vs. kitty cat debate. (and it made me laugh that you chose the cat over the trip!) A quiet evening at home does sound nice though. Enjoy your little Urchin!

Donna - the fire is optional!

Joie - she is too little to be left in a cattery while we go away, so we'll stay home for a couple of months.

oh, btw, the blood orange soda wasn't a san pelligrino. it was a store brand/generic from my grocery store - safeway, under the name "o organics". but i would think any soda (or blood orange juice + san pelligrino) would be ok!
