Figs & Proscuitto

There is a reason why figs and proscuitto are such a classic combination - it tastes good, it smells good and it looks pretty! I have had some very fine warm salads of figs stuffed with gorgonzola, wrapped in proscuitto and baked until the cheese drools out like cream. But at it's simplest - a piece of fresh fig wrapped in a piece of proscuitto - it really is at its best.

What a beautiful looking fig! I should get some and make a cake...or go for more simple pleasures like you suggest, it looks wonderful!

Umm, I liked Fig Newtons when I was a little girl. Does that count? Now that I'm all grown up, I'll have to try figs with proscuitto.
You've won an award. Come on over and see what it is.

HH - that cake you made a while back deserves a rematch!

Natashya - you really must! Sweet and salty and delicious.

Kristib - yes! Go back and get them!

Gloria - thanks for the award - so funny to get a chocoholics award when I am really, really not! But yes, it is time you tried fresh figs with proscuitto.

Thanks, Kitchen Flavours!

Kat - we're thinking about planting a fig tree. Apparently they grow well here in the UK although the fruit is never as good as the imported stuff that gets sun.

Ooh, I just saw a fig & proscuitto combination on a pizza. I can't find figs here, and the hubby doesn't like them... sob! It's either divorce or another option. I've already gone the melon route, any other ideas?

Some things are a classic because they are so brilliant. This is definitely one of those things.

Figs are so sexah.

Grace - I think I need to start issuing awards to food heroes - like the first person to wrap a fig in proscuitto

Dee - no cause for divorce - all the more for you! I love stuff I don't have to share...

Heather - I know, right? So feminine and voluptuous.

Esi - it was your salad and then that galette that made me buy the figs in the first place!

Good morning foodycat. Have I told you how much I love figs? Figs and proscuitto do look beautiful together. The colors just compliment each so well as do the taste. Foodycat, could you please stop by my chocolate blog: http://chocolateloreandmore.blogspot.com/ . I have something for you.

They are a wonderful combo when the figs are most ripe....hard to beat.

Everyone is doing the fig thing! There are none to be had here and I am so sad! I honestly can't find them anywhere!

-You're right, just simple with the proscuitto is best!

Thank you Teresa! I will proudly display my award.

Peter - I bet you've been eating figs constantly while you've been in Greece, you lucky thing!

Hot Garlic - you are in the wrong hemisphere! Wait a couple of months and you'll be able to get lovely figs while we are only dreaming of them.
