This week is pot luck week with I Heart Cooking Clubs, so I have two delicious dishes from Diana Henry which added up to one delicious meal.
A smoked haddock rarebit, rich, smoky and satisfying, and a crunchy salad with a tangy dressing went beautifully together. It's nice to have a salad that really makes the most of the vegetables that are around in winter, although I think for best effect I should have got out the mandolin to julienne the celeriac and carrot.

I think this takes a sandwich and salad dinner to a new level. I love how gooey and cheesy the rarebit looks and the contrast of the tangy crisp salad. Yum! ;-)
Ooo that rarebit. Looks so good!
i've never been entirely clear on what defines rarebit, but frankly, anything with a blanket of melted cheese is a-okay in my book!
Rarebit is awesome and yours looks delicious. And the salad goes with it perfectly. YUM!
I've never had rarebit - I think I've missed out on something really fabulous. I must rectify this very soon. Salad sounds delicious too.
Deb - it's a fantastic rarebit!
Joanne - anything with melted cheese though...
Grace - well, it's an open-face grilled cheese sandwich, BUT it is always made with a bechamel, and at its best has beer and worcestershire sauce in it.
Pam - thanks!
Zosia - you really must. It's much more satisfying than cheese on toast, although I can't figure out why!
I love the sound of both of these dishes, but since I love a salad any time of year, I'm really taken with the idea of a salad that makes such great use of winter ingredients.
Both the rarebit and salad looks delicious! I have never tried rarebit before, and would love to!
That looks so delicious! What a perfect-sounding menu!
I haven't had rarebit in years and this recipe inspires me to get the cheese out and start shredding! Love that you made a version with haddock. Also love any salad celebrating celeriac.
Salad is one of my favorite things, looks crunchy :)
Sue - the salad is definitely going into regular rotation.
Joyce - do! It's one of the best British dishes in my opinion.
Ms How - thank you!
Kim - celeriac is so underrated!
Unknown - it is crunchy! very fresh.
